Me
I – Sam. You can read about me in http://www.samueldotj.com. For short reading see my profile.
My Computers
Now I have 2 computers in my home for my programming pleasures. These two increases total computers owned by me as seven.
My first computer was an Intel 80386 33MHz with 1 MB of Parity RAM, CGA Mono Monitor and 20MB Hard disk. My mom bought this for me when I was doing my last year graduation (1999). My mom is the one who directed me to the computer industry. Since I was also doing a hardware course at that time I started exploring the computer and broke one RAM slot within 1 month of purchase so after I can plug only 512KB of RAM. That is the breaking point where my explorations were started. TurboC refused to compile my C programs, so I was unable to work on my C programs. So I tried to hack it in different ways but failed because of the fact that TurboC requires at least 1MB RAM. Finally to solve my programming thrust I converted my C programs to FoxPro and QBasic. Interestingly I created a Text mode game and a PC Speaker tone editor using FoxPro and QBasic. After 6 months, the computer went down and I did not repair it because the repairing cost is more than purchasing a new one.
In 2000, I purchased my second computer Intel 80486 75Mhz with 16MB EDO RAM, onboard VGA and 500MB of Harddisk. This was the first computer that I payed partially from my pocket and remaining amount was paid by my mom. I installed Win95, WinAmp and TurboC editor – all done, started coding my C programs. Norton Disk Doctor, ScanDisk and MSBackup are the some of the programs that I extensively used while I was using this computer. I can say the seed of Ace was earthed by this computer, because the boot sector and FAT code that are being used by Ace was developed in this machine.
In 2001, I upgraded my computer with Intel Pentium 133MHz With 32MB EDO RAM, Cirrus Logic VGA and 2 GB of Harddisk. This is first computer I purchased with CD ROM drive. I used to work out my C program using this computer from 7.00PM to 10.00 PM. After 10.00PM me and my friend Venkat was used to play Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty. The game session goes up to 12 or 1.
Although, I assembled more than hundred PCs for others the first PC assembled for me was in 2002. The configuration was Intel810 chipset Celeron 666Mhz, 196MB RAM, 20 GB Harddisk and 15in Colour Monitor. Most of the Ace OS code was developed in this machine. This is the machine that I satisfied with my system configuration. I tempt to argue that this configuration is enough for any business, internet application with the exception of gaming and multimedia applications.
The next PC that I assembled was in 2003 with the following configurations – Gigabyte Intel845 Celeron 1.7GHz, 256MB RAM, 40 GB Harddisk, DVD ROM and 17in colour monitor. GRUB and VESA code for Ace OS was developed in this computer.
This February(2006) I have assembled another PC for me with the following configurations – Gigabyte Intel945ChipSet, Pentium 4 Dual Core 2.8GHz, 512MB RAM, 160GB SATA, Sony DVD Writer, 17in Flat Color Monitor, ATI 550x 256MB Graphics Card. I am currently using this PC for gaming.
My Network
I home network compose of two PCs and a cross over cable. I am using the network mostly for testing the Ace OS using the NetBoot facility of GRUB.
I am also waiting for a broadband connection so that I can join the internet community from home.
My Dream
My dream is building a computerized house or at least a room. All the electrical and electronic appliances should controlled by the computer and the computer should obey to the voice commands. Since I am going to post story about my dream soon, I finish this blog here.

Nice to know about your home LAN.
Though I have a wireless network at home connecting 2 PCs and one laptop, the PCs have a crossover cable between them for faster multiplayer gaming throughput.
Both are AMD Athlons 2GHz and above with half gig ram each, one with an NVidia Geforce 5200 and the other with a 6200 card. Sure is the cheapest way to build a gaming LAN.
